Remembering April Earthquake

Image
Though today it's been one of the best days of my life, I still remember what and how this very day still haunts many peoples of Nepal. We lost many innocent lives and it will always be one of the biggest losses for our country. Undoubtedly, its appalling to understand the lackluster activities of our government especially in the field of reconstruction. Unstable government has not helped us a bit. Marginalized and excluded peoples are further pushed towards the margins. Deeper if you've gone, problems have only added. Silence is not the option though. Never it should be.   Meanwhile, I apologize but do not really know how many people chose to forget their loss and recovered quickly, but definitely that shock reminded us about our impermanence. Amidst those haste, we further realized the importance of our families including our parents and social relationships. Appreciate your family and friends and the love they give you always before it all ends.    ...

Why I want to study Law? by Nyima Dhondup #dolpo #lawyer #education #youth

Image
There are several reasons why I want to understand and practice Law. Discrimination and inequality, our community continue to experience are some of the main reasons. Other reasons as far as I can remember now are discussed here.                                                 Pic: Nyima Dhondup in his village First, during Winter Season, few of our villagers come to Kathmandu for pilgrimage annually. On the way to Kathmandu, they bring traditional food items, such as, Zimbu, Tsampa, Chilly, Tshurpi, Butter etc., for their consumption. Police often cease their luggage and usually stop them and cease those items from them. I have heard that police themselves consume those food items. Second, I cannot find any justice in my village. For instance, once, some thieves killed a person for ancient statues. Neither police came to arre...

In his own words by Nyima Dhondup #dolpo #youth #lawyer #education

Image
My name is Nyima Dhondup Gurung. I am from Tinje VDC, Dolpo. My parents are farmer. I am from poor family. But, I am very lucky boy as I got chance to study with help of our sponsor Anrico la. By the help of our sponsor, I passed HSEB last year 2016. I passed my primary level (upto five class) from my village school. In the journey of my primary level, I did not get any problems in any field as every privileges were managed by parents and sponsor.  After finishing our primary level we were transferred to Kathmandu for our secondary level study. While we were learning for our secondary level every facilities were managed by our sponsor except our pocket money. As I am from a poor family, my parents suffered a lot even for managing my pocket money. Due to that struggle my parents had refused for my further study after SLC. But, I did not accept their decision and I came here for further study (+2) managing every expenses for the journey and my Higher Secondary Level (HS...

‘Sam-dhang kyo la mi-dha’: Pema Gojor and His Experiences #dolpo #blog

Image
Born in Karang-4, Saldang, Pema Gojor is currently conducting a research about the Monasteries of Dolpo. He was one of the three Dolpo people who were assigned to this research by Nyinchung Tulku Rinpoche. Though later he became the only one to conduct the task, he did not refrain but continued the task for four months in Dolpo. He journeyed through all 7 Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Dolpo while interviewing locals including the related people of monasteries. These people included monks and many others. As this task mainly fell during the season of spring and summer, the weather supported him though the treacherous journey at times warned him too. Remembering a moment when he felt that he nearly died as he reached Tingyu VDC (at-least four days away from Dunai) from Dho VDC, he was relieved to find some seep of local brewery products to breathe in his life. On the other hand, he remembers an old monk who does not know anything about his own monastery. This a...

When the first anger was smeared at us,  We should have United,  When our first door was kicked and destroyed,  We should have United, When our first statue was looted, We should have United,   When the first gun was pointed at us,  We should have United,  We should have United, & We should have fought back. Our silence, amidst all, is just a surrender or  Are we preparing well for the 'big' fight?  Or will it just be too late,  Then, To clutch our fists together, n  Held our hands?  Or Will our history swipe it all? When we should have United,   When the first anger was smeared at us... Date: 15th October 2016, Saturday

The 'Gaa-ra' in Dolpo #theoutcast #understanding #Himalaya #North #discrimination

Image
There would be very few who wouldn't imagine an ideal and just society, a sort of an utopia. How would you, then define a just or an ideal society and what do you mean by it? The questions have directed many Greek philosophers towards a relentless quest too. 'Long' and the 'big' books written by the likes of Plate, Socrates, and Aristotle still exist. Such question still shapes our continued and contemporary way of thinking and it has indeed affected our daily lives too though its conceptualization and expressions could be different to many. In my understanding of a just society, the very idea of recognition, respect and a 'dignified life' remain pivotal. Without recognition and respect, it would be nearly impossible to discuss such society and even begin the discussion. There are also 'anomalies' and 'deviance' within the Himalayan community, such as Dolpo, known as 'Gaa-ra' who are still treated 'unequally'. Unk...
